Institute for European Affairs is focusing on negotiations between Serbia and the EU as well as on strengthening the capacity of all sides involved in the process. Given the complexity and long duration of the process, the Institute brings together a large number of professionals and external experts with whom organises trainings, debates and other forms of capacity development. We want to contribute to enhanced understanding of Serbia-EU relations. The Institute provides multi-perspective trainings in order to enable active participation of professionals and citizens in the decision-making processes. The Institute actively advocates for fundamental reforms within the EU integration process and in cooperation with partners working on strengthening Serbia's capacity to face the challenges of the global world through collective action. The overall objective is active membership of Serbia in Euro-Atlantic framework for the benefit of all citizens.

PEER TO PEER EDUCATION ACTIVITY

Peer to Peer Lecture: How was Organized?

My peer to peer education activity was organized at my school I decided to ask one of my teachers if they could make possible a free class-hour to share my experiences with my class-mates as a Youth Reconciliation Ambassador that was held on September 03-08, 2012. I thought it would be a great idea to arrange a lecture with my class with the permission of my English teacher which he let me to do that.

My class has nearly 37 students and I think this is a great amount of number to spread my experience so they could also forward the info they got to their friends. In my class during my presentation were 35 students present, they were very interested to hear more about my experience as a Youth Ambassador. I thought it was not necessary to make a list of the participants because I shared my presentation with my class-mates, some of them did not wish to sign the list but if it’s really required to do that I think I can do something about that.

To take into count that it was a period which we call Grading Period and we are at the final year of under-graduate a lot of study is required if we want to be successful in the future so we had to study a lot so we didn’t have much time. I could organize something more big as always with the permission of my school principal but I hope I will do that on the next months…

What topics we covered & discussed?

Our working language most of the time was English and my presentation was in English because my English teacher made it possible to share my experiences and keep my debate in his class. We pretty much discussed about our study visits at the Assembly of Serbia, Anti-corruption Agency, UK embassy, War crimes prosecution…etc and all the topics our lectures hold us with my my new knowledge, new skills gained I think it was more than enough to discus.

I also discussed that we should not be based on the media because the situation is different, I made new friends we had all the same aim our future perspective, all the participants won a scholarship where our accommodation, food, transport expenses of the program was all covered by the non-governmental organization called “Omladinski Odbor Za Obrozovanje”(Youth Education Committee) made this possible with the support of British Embassy.

We visited Kalamekdan, Zemun, went to McDonalds we visited different interesting places, there is also a road in the old part of Belgrade called Skodarlija (Shkodra,Albania), If you want to see the real civilization of the Balkans you should go and visit the beautiful metropolitan city of Belgrade. My mates were very glad and interested on the topics we discussed and they wished to have the same chance as me to participate on such programs.

My teacher & friends congratulated me and wished me luck and success on my future projects, they wanted me to be an example to encourage others to be part as such activities and programs in the future, because only Recon is welcomed and this is the only way peaceful development of the region.
