Institute for European Affairs is focusing on negotiations between Serbia and the EU as well as on strengthening the capacity of all sides involved in the process. Given the complexity and long duration of the process, the Institute brings together a large number of professionals and external experts with whom organises trainings, debates and other forms of capacity development. We want to contribute to enhanced understanding of Serbia-EU relations. The Institute provides multi-perspective trainings in order to enable active participation of professionals and citizens in the decision-making processes. The Institute actively advocates for fundamental reforms within the EU integration process and in cooperation with partners working on strengthening Serbia's capacity to face the challenges of the global world through collective action. The overall objective is active membership of Serbia in Euro-Atlantic framework for the benefit of all citizens.

Peer to Peer Education – Dhurata Prokshi

What was the topic of the discussion and how was organised?

The topic of discussion was, “The role of culture in Peace and Reconciliation”, the ambassador in charge (Dhurata Prokshi), has shown the experience of YRA to Friedrich Ebert Schtiftung, gained support for the activity and organized it in name of Caritas Kosova. The discussion content was movie “Who’s this song”, as a base for discussion on role of culture for gathering or dividing communities with different ethnic or religious background. Participants besides commenting on the story of movie, they were asked to give examples from their daily life.

Explain the reaction of the participants on your speech.

They estimated the approach on culture as a point that gathers people as a new one and a topic in which can be done work on future, starting by learning language of each other and knowing culture. The fact that same practice was taken from Belgrade made it more credible in front of them.

Have you notice the impact of your lecture on the participants? Explain.

I noticed that people start to think about the topic and find spheres inside the culture that has not been discussed earlier. Food, traditions of marriages, celebrations of religious feasts (rituals which they practice) and they found many things in common.

What were the questions posed by the participants and how did you react?

Participants were by side of Serbian and Albanian community, there were comments from the Serbian participants, regarding the visit of journalist in Serbia.Before seeing the priest they said that Roma people doesn’t represent Serbians, till the end when they saw real Serbs.
