Jelena Brašanac was born in Pljevlja, Montenegro. She has finished High School „Tanasije Pejatović“ as one of the best students and the winner of National Competition in Biology.
She graduated Molecular Biology and Physiology at the Faculty of Biology University of Belgrade, in 2009. Currently, she is at her Master studies at the same Faculty. She has been working in the field of experimental biomedicine and neuroscience as a student – researcher, at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, for the last two years. Also, she is DAAD alumni of Neuroscience program at the Konstanz University in Germany.
She dreams about working on the interface between humanities and social sciences with the natural sciences, connecting different spheres of science, culture and art. She recognizes the importance of science popularization and promoting dialogue between researchers and lay audience. As a leading member of Student Neuroscience Socity, she has organized various projects, such as Science Festival and Brain Awareness Week. Also, she is passionate about enhancing dialogue and collaboration among different Balkan nationaliies, connecting people and overcoming present obstacles between them. She was participant of Western Balkans Leadership Seminar, dedicated to relationship between Western Balkans and EU, and Erasmus+ study visit Experience 14/14, questioning common European history and remembrance culture.
Strongly believing in the power of education and creativity, she is working on empowering young people to take an active role in the society.
Yoga lover, traveler, volunteering has become her lifestyle.
