All of us in our life have some rules. Common rule is to create a better future. Youth Reconciliation Ambassadors of Western Balkan should not abandon the mission to spread understanding and cooperation and to develop integration and reconciliation of South Eastern Europe. My satisfaction is that I’m a part of a team of Youth Reconciliation Ambassadors where I can with my presence contribute to the development process and reconciliation in the region.
There is a quote that I can often hear in my country and from friends in the region: “Before you can change the world you have to change yourself.” These days, while I was writing this essay, I had the opportunity to see a live demonstrations in my town (Tuzla), where people seek their human rights. These demonstrations were characteristic that even the world heard of them. The results have been achieved: government have been changed, in a very short period courage is expanded to hold a demonstration and seeking their human rights in other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. What I want to say with this? In these moments we were all one, were held peaceful protests of solidarity in other cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where in generally it’s not expected, as well as in the region when we talk about Belgrade and Skopje, which consequently is obtained regional support. No one is thinking and talking about nationalities, religious, racial, gender and party affiliation. Because of all this I believe that we can go forward with full power and create a new successful era in this part of Europe.
In the war (1992-1995), Bosnia and Herzegovina has suffered enormous human and material damage. Enormous destruction and mass murder on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina left are clear consequences to all citizens. Therefore, in my opinion, as long as Bosnia and Herzegovina does not calculate with their own history, the possibilities for its overall progress are more than limited. A large number of pending cases, slow processing cases, conflict of jurisdiction between the State and the Entities and clear deficiencies in human infrastructural facilities for processing referrers are still pointing to the necessity of making unique strategies for working on war crimes cases. For these reasons, the adoption of the National Strategy for the war crimes in 2008 was highly complementary step for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of dealing with the past.
Common problems in the countries of South Eastern Europe are, approximately, non-recognition of certain facts from the past, which challenged prosperity, development and reconciliation in the region. In addition, we, the youth reconciliation ambassadors talked during a study visit to Belgrade about a few common problems, and in my opinion, one of them is that every country wants to portray himself as more victim and, unfortunately, so you can’t expect reconciliation in full capacity, but one of the conclusions from the team of ambassadors reconciliation in the region for these common problems is young generations should viewed past constructively, because with such an approach may affect the public that their engagement directed towards achieving equality of people and their communities with respecting standards adopted in Europe.
Bearing in mind a lot of young people are disadvantaged in their areas both in Tuzla as well as in other cities in this part Europe, of course it will be difficult approach to solving many problems, but if we’re all together participated in the said with a political will of certain parties, will surely come to results enviably level. Each of us is engaged in political parties or in non-government organizations. It is certain that the greater the impact on the construction process of reconciliation in the region can be achieved through the involvement of political parties, especially if one of us has the opportunity to participate in the executive, or the legislature of South East Europe, but also through access to the non-governmental sector can realize the foundation for creating a system which can make us as a promoters of good regional cooperation.
